Project Process
- Students will be divided into groups of 3 or 4
- Have students take the position of air craft inventors in the early 1900's.
Journal
- As a group you students will be creating a journal or diary of their work process as they invent an aircraft that will rival the Wright Brother's invention.
- They should base your journal entries on accurate research from primary sources found on the Library of Congress website or from the links found in the Pathfinder provided.
- The journal should consist of 8 entries - one for each day you work on the project.
- At least two journal entries should include mathematical processes or equations, materials that you would used, and a scientific process of constructing an aircraft that will fly. Think about terms like density, aerodynamic, equilibrium and center of gravity.
- One entry should include a blueprint style drawing of the aircraft that your team would build.
- At least three entries should contain information about events that occurred before the Wright Brother's first flight and relate to flight or air craft.
- One entry should contain a photograph and an analysis of the photo explaining 1.) What they see in the photo, 2.) How the photo makes them feel? and 3.) How the photo relates to the context of this particular point of history.
- In the last entry students should include a reflection of the entire process as a whole.
Sales Pitch
- As a group students should create a sales pitch that they can deliver to a company (panel of teachers or staff) that may potentially buy their design to build an aircraft.
- The pitch should include how their design was planned out and why their specific design will lead to a successful aircraft.
- They will also need to design a visual aid to help them convincingly deliver their pitch with flair!
